Because absolutely nobody demanded it, Warner Bros. and New Line Pictures were planning to flog the horse that is The Lord Of The Rings some more. David Zaslav wants those properties leveraged, and leveraged hard!

We assumed it would be more live-action based on un-adapted aspects of the books and their extensive appendices. More was revealed earlier this week on an investor call.

Warner Bros. Discovery had already signed a multi-year deal with rights holders Embracer Group AB. This granted them permission to make new movies based on the properties.

According to a report in Variety, they told investors that a 2026 release date is planned for a new movie. It will be The Hunt for Gollum, and Zaslav said Peter Jackson and his Rings writing partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens will produce and are involved in the creation of the project.

Andy Serkis will return to the role, and he will also direct.

The original movies from Peter Jackson are now over 20 years old and still stand up today. The Hobbit movies remain over-long, and over-produced.

Well, whatever they come up with can’t be as bad as Rings Of Power, can it?
