The existence of Andor is now frustrating. When the first season dropped, and it slowly dawned on us this was not your average Disney Star Wars, it gave fans a lot of hope. Had Lucasfilm finally woken up? Had somebody over there who actually understood the franchise and the fans stood up? Favreau no longer had to shoulder the burden alone through The Mandalorian.

Unfortunately, everything that has come since then, either to the screen or in the form of an announcement, has shown it was a false dawn. Star Wars remains in a desperate state, and even The Mandalorian soiled its own nest in Season 3.

Andor

Still, the fact that the show Kennedy had the least to do with, from a creative team with the confidence and experience to ignore her notes, is the most creatively successful thing that Lucasfilm has produced since the takeover must really grind her gears. Good!

The second series is on the way and actor Stellan Skarsgård, who portrays revolutionary leader Luthen Rael, says an even better season is coming.

Skarsgård was out doing press for Dune Part Two when he told GamesRadar+ that the upcoming season is worth the wait:

“It’s the last season of it. It ends where Rogue One starts so it’s up to that point. I think it will be very good as already the first one was satisfying for me because it’s sort of Star Wars for grown-ups – it’s a more realistic and complicated society that they’re living in and the claustrophobia of the fascist regime is palpable. I think we have a good season ahead of us.”

After many delays due to various Hollywood strikes, Andor was not expected in 2024 and was not on the release schedules that were shared. According to Skarsgård:

“It will probably be out towards the end of the year or early next.”

This time around we will just enjoy it, but won’t get our hopes up that it heralds a new Star Wars dawn.
