A rumor gained some traction online over the weekend and then spread like wildfire. How much is true, and how much is the internet doing its thing? Potentially first appearing via MyTimeToShineHello, a recognized scooper, the rumor is that Man of Steel and Mission Impossible: Fallout star Henry Cavill is not just in talks to appear in the MCU, but has already accepted a role.

There is no confirmation of what the role is, but the scooper claims that fans might find out pretty soon. Remember, back in 2022, with his future as Superman still unclear, Beyond the Trailer presenter Grace Randolph reported Cavill was in talks with Marvel. Back then, his potential return as Superman may have hindered any progress.

Cavill’s name is frequently linked to Captain Britain, AKA Brian Braddock. As Captain Britain, Brian was empowered by the legendary magician Merlyn and his daughter Roma, with powers entwined with the Excalibur myth and Arthurian legend. He was assigned to be the champion of the British Isles and its peoples, as well as the defender of Earth-616.

There have been no reports in trades or from studio sources, so at the moment treat this as very much unconfirmed and maybe even internet wishful thinking.

Cavill himself has recently been heavily linked with the James Bond vacancy and also starred in Argylle, which is struggling at the box office. He has Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare out in APril. There is also the in-the-works Warhammer 40,000 series at Amazon spinning up.
