Mission Impossible

Cruise Turned Down One Stunt

Tom Cruise will climb anything, throw himself off anything, or drive anything until it explodes around him. Just about the only thing Tom Cruise will not do is phone it in, or bring anything less than his A-game. Until now. Tom Cruise refused to do one stunt for Mission: Impossible -Dead Reckoning Part One. Joining the cast is Guardians Of The Galaxy star Pom Klementieff as Paris. She is a martial artist and has a unique look. At some point, she will trade blows with Ethan Hunt. In an interview with EW Pom says she told Cruise to kick her in the stomach for real. He refused.

Mission-Impossible

“I kept telling him to just kick me here. I was squeezing abs. [I said], ‘You can just go for it.’ He was like ‘No, no, no, no, no.’ I was like, ‘But it’s going to help me!’ But he wouldn’t do it.”

Writer/Director Christopher McQuarrie says Paris adds a new angle to the story:

“It doesn’t matter how deep in the background she is. You’re going to be watching her at all times and wondering what she’s going to do. She’s a rebel. She’s a killer, she’s extremely skilled and quite lonely too.”

The big car chase scene in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, an homage to For Your Eyes Only, involves Cruise in a tiny yellow car being pursued by Paris in a Humvee. Klementieff said of filming that sequence:

“I was trying to not laugh too much because I was having so much fun in the car.”

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is scheduled to hit cinemas on July 12th.
