No, it is not a movie about an elevator. Or the wedges Kevin Hart might wear in his shoes. Lift is a heist movie coming this Friday to Netflix.

The action comedy stars Hart, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D’Onofrio, Sam Worthington and Jean Reno. The cast is rounded out by Billy Magnussen, Paul Anderson, Burn Gorman, Ursula Corbero, Kim Yoon-ji, Viveik Kalra, and Jacob Batalon also star whilst Daniel Kunka and Jeremy Donner penned the script.

Lift

It is directed by F. Gary Gray, the man behind The Fate of the Furious, Straight Outta Compton, and The Italian Job remake. It follows an international heist crew who pull off various major cons from identity theft to money laundering. The authorities have tracked them down, but make them an offer they can’t refuse.

To prevent a major terrorist attack, they must make a half billion dollars in gold disappear. The catch? The gold will be transported on an airliner over the Swiss Alps, so their plan must be as elaborate as anything they have done before.

Hart, Gray, Matt Reeves, Simon Kinberg, Brent O’Connor, Patricia Braga, Audrey Chon, Adam Kassan and Brian Smiley produce.

In March 2021, Dan Kunka’s spec script was acquired by Netflix, with Simon Kinberg’s Genre Pictures and Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho set to produce. In September of that year, F. Gary Gray was set to direct and Kevin Hart was attached to star and produce.

Principal photography took place from February to May 2022 in Italy and Northern Ireland. Filming occurred in March at Belfast’s Harbour Studios. Scenes were shot in Trieste on the Miramare Castle grounds in late May.

Lift was initially scheduled for August last year but now will be the streamer’s first big film release of 2024 after delays due to the strikes.
