We are so late to this. Why? Well, it turns out that in all the alerts we have set up to bring you news when it breaks into the wild, we didn’t have one set up for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. That’s on us! Anyway, better late than never.
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary have released a third trailer to announce that tickets are now on sale for their monster mash-up. Adam Wingard’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is described as an all-new adventure that pits the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own.
“Why you so late, LMO? Now monkey is sad.”
It promises to delve further into the histories of these Titans and their origins, as well as the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.
Wingard described the film as having a buddy-cop dysfunctional relationship dynamic akin to Lethal Weapon with the film having a very heavy 1980s influence. Those who know their Godzilla history point to it reflecting the slightly crazy Shōwa Era of the Big G.
Godzilla vs. Kong stars Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Kaylee Hottle return, along with Dan Stevens, Alex Ferns, and Fala Chen.
Terry Rossio, Simon Barrett, and Jeremy Slater penned the script.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire opens in theaters on March 29th.
