Max Latest To Tackle Password Sharing

First ads, and now password sharing. The days of everyone from your Grandmother to your ex having access to your streaming accounts are definitely coming to an end.

Netflix cut off the hangers-on and saw subscriber growth. Disney+ starts its crackdown on password sharing from next week. Hot on their heels, Warner Bros. Discovery has announced Max will do the same.

Restrictions will come into force in late 2024. This was announced by head of global streaming and games JB Parrette at Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media & Telecom Conference on Monday. There will be a paid sharing option.

Warner Bros. became the first major studio-owned streamer to turn a profit thanks to their strong back catalog and the HBO angle. With subscriber growth having slowed across this beard, these moves are perhaps inevitable.

HBO series have traditionally been the most pirated shows in the world. Game Of Thrones had that unenviable title for almost its entire existence. A lower-cost Max option possibly goes some way towards countering that. Will this set that back?

Remember kids, you can lend your DVDs to whoever the hell you like.
