A seemingly wild rumor appeared online yesterday, from an internet “scooper”. By the time that rumor had really gained some traction, the trades did some digging and confirmed it. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scarlett Johansson is in talks to join the new Jurassic World movie that is preparing to shoot at Universal Pictures.

Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Rogue One, The Creator) is directing from a script by David Koepp. Koepp wrote the first two Spielberg movies in the franchise.

Originally, Bullet Train director David Leitch was attached, but he dropped out earlier in the year. The movie is on super-fast track, with Universal and Amblin Partners having funding in place and a July 2nd, 2025 release date set. It is in pre-production right now, with June set for the start of shooting.  It will probably shoot through the summer and early autumn, then enter extensive post-production over the winter.

The rumor is that the new Jurassic World movie will take place in the same continuity as the earlier films, but several years later. As such, it won’t involve any of the prior cast.

Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Patrick Crowley are producing.

Johansson is no stranger to big franchises and FX-driven action, so will be a safe bet for the studio.
