For all of the Grand Prix wins and World Championships that drivers such as Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton have, pretty much everyone who understands motorsport will nod sagely when Ayrton Senna’s name is mentioned as arguably the greatest racing driver of all time.

From winning six Grand Prix in unfancied cars to his total dominance of Monaco in his era, he was also one of the most exciting drivers to watch. His ability to charge hard and carve through the field was legendary, as was his mastery in the wet. He became locked in a fierce rivalry with Alain Prost. He would eventually go on to be World Champion three times, and it seemed like there were many more championships to come.

Then, tragically, his life was cut short in an accident at the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994.

Senna

He was already the subject of a fantastic 2010 docufilm, Senna, directed by Asif Kapadia. Now his story will be told again. This time in a six-episode limited series on Netflix, who are really getting into Formula One.

The series follows the life, career, and relationships of Senna. Gabriel Leone takes on the lead role in the project which also stars Alice Wegmann, Kaya Scodelario, Pâmela Tomé, Julia Foti, Camila Mardila, Johannes Heinrichs, and Leon Ockenden.

The story starts with Senna moving to England to compete in Formula Ford, and you can be in little doubt where it will conclude.

Vicente Amorim is the showrunner and co-director, alongside Julia Rezende. Fabiano Gullane and Caio Gullane produce.

Gustavo Bragança, Alvaro Campos, Gustavo Bragança, Rafael Spínola, Thais Falcão, and Alvaro Mamute all had a hand in the script.
