In comics, nobody is ever really gone. Not even Thanos. A while ago it started to get popular to kill off comic book characters and make an “event” out of it. The trouble was, once they were gone, you couldn’t make any more money off them, so they all had to find ways to bring them back.

Cue multiverses, reboots, regenerations, magic, and a whole slew of narrative bullshit to undo their self-inflicted “Ooopsie!”

This was always going to spill over into the movies. Sooner or later Disney will be writing cheques the size of an African nation’s China-owed deficit to bring back some stars into the MCU. One of those could be Thanos. Actor Josh Brolin has revealed that he’s heard rumblings.

Thanos

Thanos was killed twice in Avengers: Endgame. Finally dusted out of existence by the sacrifice of Tony Stark. The Infinity Saga was done, The Multiverse Saga was to begin.

Then the guy who played Kang got himself in a spot of bother, Ant-Man 3 lost money, and we are where we are. Speaking with ComicBook.com, Brolin said he had heard things:

“You know, I hear kind of like through the grapevine, that they’re going to bring him back. And there’s the ‘What If…?’ series and that’s a different kind of Thanos and all that. But I don’t know in the Marvel world whether they’re going to bring him back, but I didn’t know that he was the most killed-off Marvel villain … You learn something new every day.”

Brolin returns as Gurney Halleck in Dune: Part Two next month.

Marvel has a single movie coming out this year, Deadpool 3. Brolin already featured as the villain Cable in Deadpool 2.
