Look, it’s Avatar. You know we can’t discuss this without the usual reference to the movie still sitting at the top of all-time box office charts while making zero cultural impact. We talked ad infinitum about how there was zero buzz about the sequel, whether online or among the normos.
Then Avatar: The Way Of Water came out, blew away the box office, and immediately jumped into third place in the all-time box office list, just behind Avengers: Endgame. Shows what we know, eh?
So this time around, we won’t underestimate Avatar as a brand ever again, even if there is once again a curious lack of buzz around the whole thing even with another sequel due in just over a year.
James Cameron clearly knows exactly what he is doing. He appeared via video at D23 Brazil over the weekend and shared a pile of new concept art from Avatar: Fire and Ash. This was the first good look at the new tribe, a nomadic band of Na’vi who travel by air.
According to the director, they represent a group whose ancient home was destroyed by volcanic eruptions, so they resent nature and everything the forest Na’vi believes in. He also confirmed that the narrator of this instalment will switch from Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully to Britain Dalton’s Lo’ak. He also confirmed post-production is underway.
The images were then shared via the official Avatar X channel.
Avatar: Fire and Ash opens on December 19th, 2025.
