Kevin Costner is to have a change of pace and setting for his next project. The Oscar winner is hanging up his boots and stetson and replacing them with a set of board shorts.
According to The Hollywood Reporter Coster acts in, produces, and co-writes Headhunters for Territory Pictures and Stone Village Films.
Cinematographer Steven Holleran will direct, and the whole project is based on his idea. He will work with Costner on the script.
This is a horror movie. Costner will play Lazer, a washed-up American ex-pat with a mysterious past who finds himself living in Bali. He recruits a group of surfers led by Bima, a local photographer, on a journey to an uncharted island to find the “perfect wave”.
The trouble is that the island, unknown to them, is home to an isolated and ancient tribe of headhunters who guard their land at all costs. Things quickly devolve into a survival horror that, according to the blurb, is a story of:
“…epic and bloody proportions on a tropical island which once seemed to be paradise…but is actually closer to hell”
Pre-production on Headhunters is already is underway and filming will start on location in November. There is a small bidding war erupting between distributors who want to snare this project.
Daniel Zovatto (Station Eleven) is the only announced co-star at this point.
