As is traditional, the Doctor Who Christmas Special has aired on the BBC in the UK and Disney+ worldwide and it contained a sneak peak at the upcoming new season, the second season of Ncuti Gatwa’s run as the Doctor.
This season will sede the introduction of Varada Sethu (Andor) as the new companion Belinda Chandra. I have no idea what happened to last companion Ruby Sunday. I didn’t see any of the last run. I liked what I saw of Gatwa in the role but just never felt an urge to make it appointment TV as it was back at the height of the Tennant or Smith runs.
The new season will show the Doctor on a quest to get Belinda back to Earth, but finding a mysterious force stopping their return. As usual, the series promises enemies old and new.
Millie Gibson’s Ruby Sunday must have survived, as she will still appear in a number of episodes of this new run.
Russell T Davies returns as showrunner from Gatwa’s first season. A third season of Doctor Who with Gatwa in the role is expected but still awaits the greenlight from the powers that be at the BBC and Disney.
A release date has not yet been announced for the new season.
