The Hollywood Reporter has corrected its own reporting overnight, with an update on Dune: Messiah that might reveal something about Spider-Man 4. Stick with us on this…
It was initially reported that Dune: Messiah was going to shoot in 2026, mainly due to Zendaya being required to film Euphoria and then Spider-Man 4 in 2025. Her character of Chani is a major part of the story, which brings the Paul Atreides arc to a definitive close within the Dune universe.
The report also said that cinematographer Greig Fraser would be on The Batman Part II in October next year. However, the new report overnight said there is no delay, and Dune: Messiah will indeed shoot next year with what they refer to as an “extensive, multi-location, multi-month shoot” at scale.
The film is due to shoot next summer, immediately after Euphoria but overlapping with the start of Spider-Man 4 shooting. So what does this mean for Spider-Man 4? Well, Spider-Man: No Way Home featured Peter Parker having to make a heartbreaking decision in the climax that may point to MJs role being much reduced, as it is possibly time for Gwen to enter the picture, and there are many rumors of a female villain, and potential ally, being Spider-Man’s foil in the fourth installment.
Could MJ be little more than a cameo this time around? There are also rumors that it will focus on a more “local” Spider-Man story based around his normal New York territory.
Timothee Chalamet would return for Dune: Messiah as Paul Atreides, along with Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, and Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam. There would also be a requirement for a golem Jason Momoa to return.
2027 is the likely date for Dune: Messiah, while Spider-Man 4 is looking at late 2026.
