The Running Man is putting together a really interesting cast. The Edgar Wright adaption of the Stephen King (writing as Richard Bachman) novel already has a cast that includes current Hollywood man of the hour Glen Powell in the lead.
Alongside him is Katy O’Brian (Loves Lies Bleeding) as a fellow runner. Josh Brolin is said to be in negotiations to play the Damon Killian role. Also in the picture are Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy), Michael Cera, and CODA star Emilia Jones.
Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, William H. Macy has joined the cast.
He is an Emmy winner and Academy Award-nominee. He will play a character that assists Ben Richards (Powell) while he is on the run. Macy has one hell of a filmography, including Boogie Nights, Air Force One, Magnolia, Shameless, Jurassic Park 3, and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
The Running Man is expected to move away from the WWE / American Gladiators style of the 1987 Schwarzenegger-led adaption and more closely follow the book where the survival reality program, created by the government to keep the masses down, takes place across the nation. In the game, a contestant must survive on the streets of America, and the longer they stay alive the more they win.
They are hunted by an elite team of trackers and killers, while the whole population is incentivised to turn them in. Richards enters the game to raise money for his sick daughter, and the producers learn that a truly desperate man cannot be managed and manipulated quite how they expected, as the dark secrets at the heart of the game begin to be exposed.
Shooting starts this week in London, and Paramount is releasing the film on Nov. 21st, 2025.
