The trailer has premiered for Australian director Justin Kurzel’s new crime thriller The Order. The movie premiered at the Venice Film Festival a few weeks ago, where it was in contention for the Golden Lion.
The Order was written by Zach Baylin, based on the 1989 non-fiction book The Silent Brotherhood by Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt. The film revolves around an FBI agent who goes after a white supremacist group known as the Order that was active in the United States in the 1980s. It stars Jude Law as the FBI agent, and Nicholas Hoult as his adversary.
The story is set in 1983 and begins when an Idaho-based FBI agent spots a pattern in recent bank robberies, counterfeiting operations, and armored car heists terrorizing communities across the Pacific Northwest. He sets out to prove it is not the work of a traditional organized crime unit, but a radical group with a charismatic leader – Bob Mathews.
This group is inspired by The Order – the secret neo-Nazi rebel group from William Luther Pierce’s infamous The Turner Diaries.
Tye Sheridan and Jurnee Smollett co-star in the film which covers the ensuing game of cat and mouse between law enforcement and the far-right group.
Vertical is set to release The Order in the U.S. on December 6th, with Amazon Prime Video handling much of the worldwide distribution.
