Like it or not, Hollywood has decided that Austin Butler is going to be kind of a big deal. They do this every so often. In years past, Colin Farrell and Sam Worthington were also anointed by Tinseltown. Now the Elvis star and, according to reports, scene-stealer from Dune Part Two is attached to upcoming projects from not one, but two genre directors held in high regard,
The Insneider has reported that several buyers are circling a new thriller from Black Swan and Requien for a Dream director Darren Aronofsky, one that Butler is attached to. Sony Pictures is the favorite to snag it, and it is not Aronofsky’s Elon Musk biopic, or the mysterious Emperor. So what is it? Nobody knows…
Butler is also reported to be looking at a small role in Hereditary and Midsommar director Ari Aster’s next movie, to be called Eddington. A24 are allowing him to assemble the cast he wants.
Butler has Dune Part Two dropping now, is currently appearing in Masters of the Air, and has Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders in the pipe. He has come a long way from growing up in the shadow of Disneyland in Anaheim, and his career on television with roles on the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, including Zoey 101.
With his old fashioned matinee idol looks and lazy drawl that makes girls go weak at the knees (ask your wife!) it seems the kid is here to stay.
