Remember Dawson’s Creek? Your 1990s girlfriend loved it, you probably tolerated it. Katie Holmes was nice, though. Anyway, Creek alum Joshua Jackson has joined the cast of The Karate Kid over at Sony Pictures.
Jackson, one of many Canadians in Hollywood, has been appearing in television roles such Fringe and The Affair. Most recently he has been in the Paramount+ series Fatal Attraction. His film credits include Cursed, and a cameo in Ocean’s Eleven.
The Karate Kid sequel will also star Ben Wang (American Born Chinese) in what is tagged as a coming-of-age drama, like the original. Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan will reprise their roles from the original movie and the Kung-Fu remake respectively. The new movie will apparently pull the two universes together and be set post-Cobra Kai.
It will follow a teenager of Chinese heritage living on the U.S. East Coast who finds strength and direction via martial arts. Jackson’s role is described as one of the main characters, but the exact role has not been revealed.
Jonathan Entwistle (I’m Not Okay With This) is directed from a script by Rob Lieber and Karen Rosenfelt produces.
The Karate Kid currently has a December 13th release date.
