Who doesn’t love a bit of body horror? Most people I imagine, but personally, I love it, I look in the mirror each morning and am horrified. Popping out of nowhere is The Substance, starring Demi Moore. Here is the trailer.
I’m interested, but then, I’m an ass man. It does look good though and a good role for Moore. The story is:
A fading celebrity decides to use a black market drug, a cell-replicating substance that temporarily creates a younger, better version of herself.
More blurb carries on:
It generates another you. A new, younger, more beautiful, more perfect you. And there’s only one rule: You share time. One week for you. One week for the new you. Seven days each. A perfect balance. Easy. Right? If you respect the balance… what could possibly go wrong?
The Substance stars Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, Dennis Quaid, Joseph Balderrama, Hugo Diego Garcia and Oscar Lesage. Coralie Fargeat is the writer and director. She is known for the Revenge (2017), which I can’t say I’ve heard of. By all accounts is rather good though.
The new movie from her, The Substance, is said to be a gory, but humourous take on ‘body positivity’. It’s also rated R for strong bloody violent content, gore, graphic nudity and language. You had me at nudity.
The Substance will be released 20th September.
