The weekend numbers are now in, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps powered to $117 million domestic and $100 million overseas. As opening weekends go it is strong, and just a little behind the Superman opening weekend numbers.
It looks like it could be front loaded, as the Friday to Saturday drop was pretty big at 42%.

For context, Superman was 33%, and the other big superhero release of the summer, Thunderbolts, was just 22% over the same period.
Speaking of Superman, that movie held on in second place with another $25 million. That takes it to $290 million domestic and $214 million overseas. This total means it has pushed through the $500 million barrier that Warner’s set with investors as the profit hurdle point and financial success level.
Superman did well with families. Fantastic Four seems to be stronger with the over 35 segment.
Incidentally, Superman is expected to overtake Man Of Steel to become the highest grossing Supes movie domestically either today or tomorrow.
Jurassic World: Rebirth came in with $13 million domestic. It now sits above $719 globally and must be considered a contender to win this summer season showdown.
Minecraft and Lilo & Stitch remain ahead of the dinosaurs in the year-to-date box office totals. Nothing is going to touch China and Ne Zha 2 in first place as the biggest grosser of the year.

F1 stays strong in fourth place with $6.2 million, and Smurfs were in fifth with $5.4 million.
I Know What You Did Last Summer and Eddington both dropped 60% and 62% in their second weekends respectively to leave the top 5 untroubled.
