The Great Debate: Prequels

At least one Outposter maintains that prequels are narrative poison, a storytelling cul-de-sac that simply should not exist.

There is a lot of evidence to potentially support this view. We all remember how excited we were back in 1999, before reality so cruelly proved that this point of view could be right.

However, this is Last Movie Outpost. If there is one thing we can do here, it is argue. Once more, the halls of the Outpost must ring with the sound of vigorous master-debating. Once more, it is time for a Great Debate!

“That’s not a prequel, it’s a reboot!”

This debate is very simple. Back at Outposter HQ we were having this very same argument:

Is there any prequel that has any true artistic merit or storytelling value?

To which Yoda chimed in with Indiana Jones And The Temple of Doom, and we were forced to admit that he might actually have a point. Is that it? Was Rogue One technically a prequel? Is Captain America: The First Avenger?

The new Planet Of The Apes movies? Monsters University? The Good, The Bad and the Ugly? The Godfather Part II? Oh Lordy! Can open… worms everywhere…

There is only one way to settle this. Gentlemen, start your arguing!
