Shogun

SHOGUN Season 2 Starts Filming

The first season of Shogun was exquisitely beautiful, but also frustrating. Every so often, it looked like it might explode into Game Of Thrones-style life, only for it to pull away. It kept the story personal and focused. That is why it worked, but also why it felt like it was teasing you.

Production is now underway in Vancouver on the second season.

Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis are expected to return, and production is slated to last six months.

The first season adapted James Clavell’s 1975 novel pretty faithfully. This new season has no source, so it will be an original story using characters and elements from the book. This could either set it free or be a complete disaster. It will be interesting to watch it unfold.

Shogun

Pre and post-production are long for this show due to the attention to detail and the effort to recreate feudal Japan.

The new run will start ten years on from the end of the first season, as Lord Toranaga strives to become Shōgun – the leader of Japan’s warrior class.

Joining the cast are Masataka Kubota as Hyūga, Jun Kunimura as Gōda, and Sho Kaneta as Hidenobu, Asami Kizukawa as Aya, and Takaaki Enoki as Lord Ito.

Returning from season one are Shinnosuke Abe, Yuko Miyamoto, Fumi Nikaidô, Eita Okuno, Yuka Kouri, Yoriko Dôguchi, Tommy Bastow, and Hiroto Kanai.

There is no air date yet for Shogun season 2.
