*sigh* In the category of ‘Ruining everything we love’, yes, they are looking at remaking John Carpenter’s Escape from New York.
Escape from New York came out in 1981 and was an instant cult classic. It gave us one of the coolest anti-heroes ever, Snake Plissken, played to perfection by Kurt Russell. Snake returned in 1996 in Escape from L.A., and that was the end of that.

There have been rumours of a sequel/reboot doing the rounds for years, but it now seems that a new movie has been greenlit.
StudioCanal confirmed at Comic-Con that they are partnering with The Picture Company to develop a reimagining of Escape from New York.
At the moment, there is no director, writer or cast attached, but *sigh* it’s going to happen. According to StudioCanal, have said that the movie is very much in the development stage.
The original movie starred Russell, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasence, Isaac Hayes, Harry Dean Stanton, Adrienne Barbeau, and Tom Akin. This was perfect casting for a movie like that. Can you imagine who they have in mind for this reimagining?
The team of John Carpenter and Kurt Russell was, again, perfect. They had a career together and made some truly iconic movies. A year after Escape from New York, The Thing became the best horror sci-fi movie ever made!
I need to watch Escape from New York again now, it’s been too long.
