Everybody seems to want to work with David Ayer on an action movie. Jason Statham (The Beekeeper, A Working Man) keeps going back; now Brad Pitt is reuniting with his Fury director for Paramount Pictures’ Heart Of The Beast.
Pitt is joined by a dog. Heart Of The Beast follows Special Forces officer James Belmont (Pitt) and his German Shepherd combat dog, Odin, when they find themselves stranded deep in the Alaskan wilderness following a plane crash. Together, the unbreakable bond between a man and his dog will help them face a brutal fight for survival against the elements.
J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe co-star in the film, which has had very strong test screening results. It is also only 100 minutes long, which makes us like it. It is described as a tense and lean survival thriller.
Ayer, Pitt, Olivia Hamilton, and Marty Bowen produce. The script is from Cameron Alexander and featured on the 2017 Black List of the “year’s most liked” unproduced screenplays. Damien Chazelle gets an executive producer credit.

Principal photography began on March 3rd, 2025, in Queenstown, New Zealand, and wrapped on May 15th. Jared Michael Fry was hired to compose the score for the film, marking his third collaboration with Ayer following The Beekeeper and A Working Man.
Heart of the Beast opens in cinemas on September 25th.
