A24 In For BLOODSPORT

Ahhhh, Bloodsport. A stone cold classic of ass-kickery. Arguably Jean Claude Van Damme’s best movie, and one that really supercharged his career.

Bloodsport made more than $50 million on a budget of less than $2 million and is almost as famous for the claims (some say exaggerated) of the man behind the myth, Frank Dux.

Van Damme plays this character in the movie that was claimed to be based on a true story.

Dux claimed that he partook in an underground, full-contact martial arts championship that was held in secret.

In the movie, Dux is portrayed as an army captain and ninjitsu fighter who competes in a tournament called the Kumite in Hong Kong.

A remake has been tried many times in the past. Phillip Noyce (Dead Calm) and James McTeague (V for Vendetta) were both linked at various stages.

Now A24 is said to be in negotiations for the rights to remake the 1988 movie.

The original co-starred Leah Ayres, Forest Whitaker, Donald Gibb, Roy Chiao, and Bolo Yeung.
