Lavish, large, and hopefully living up to the anticipation, Sky TV’s new adaptation of Peter Shaffer’s award-winning 1979 stage play Amadeus has a full trailer.
In this version, actor/filmmaker Will Sharpe (The White Lotus) plays Mozart opposite Paul Bettany as Salieri. This was written by Joe Barton (Black Doves and Giri/Haji).

The story will once again explore the mythic rivalry in 18th-century Vienna between musical prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Sharpe) and pious court composer Antonio Salieri (Bettany). Things get complicated by the involvement of Constanze Weber (Gabrielle Creevy). Salieri’s envy turns vengeful as he uses any means necessary to thwart Mozart and protect his position in the establishment.
Barton wrote the series with Julian Farino. Alice Seabright directs. John Griffin, Megan Spanjian, Michael Jackson (not that one!), and Stephen Wright executive produce the series.
Milos Forman’s movie version of the story remains central in many minds. The 1984 feature swept the Oscars.
The new Amadeus will launch on Sky in the UK on December 21st.
