Amazon Changes RINGS Release Strategy

I haven’t seen a moment of The Rings Of Power after the first episode, which managed to completely turn me off. People I know who know about this source material don’t give me much confidence it got a lot better.

I know it still remains one of the most expensive television shows ever created, and to try and leverage the IP, Amazon took a release approach designed to make it appointment television, with weekly episode releases after an initial episode drop of a couple of instalments.

Rings-Of-Power

No binge watching for Rings fans. Weekly waiting was needed.

For season 3, maybe indicating that viewing figures aren’t where they need to be, they are changing up the approach.

Four episodes will drop on November 11th, then two more multi-episode drops on November 18th and 25th. A two week roll-out window with the entire run available over Thanksgiving.

This is a definite strategy to try and snare holiday viewers.

Imagine how much working in TV has changed over the last few years. A while ago you had to wait for Nielsen set-top box numbers to be collected and collated, and then you anxiously waited for the sweeps.

Now you have minute-by-minute live data injected directly into your analysts eyeballs so they can make up strategy on the hoof. Exciting!

The third season of Rings Of Power starts five years after the events of the last season, and a war is raging.

Maybe I need to give it another go?
