As if Bambi wasn’t traumatic enough, now there is Bambi: The Reckoning. It is from the same people that brought you Pooh: Blood and Honey, and here is a trailer.
Yes, dear Bambi has gone into the public domain, so they can do whatever they like with him now. How about a horror movie with a giant deer stalking its prey? The hunted becomes the hunter.
Bambi: The Reckoning stars Roxanne McKee, Nicola Wright, Samira Mighty, Russell Geoffrey Banks, Tom Mulheron, Alex Cooke and Catherine Adams. Dan Allen directs. Felix Salten and Rhye Warrington are credited as the writers. Salten is the original writer of Bambi, I’ll bet he never dreamed of this.
The plot is:
After a mother and son get in a car wreck, they soon become hunted by Bambi, a mutated grief-stricken deer on a deadly rampage seeking revenge for the death of his mother.
So it’s a sequel to the original Bambi? That guy who shot his mother is in big trouble. It might be a good one to sit down with the kids and watch. They can see how that poor little deer got its own back.
I can’t lie, I did like Pooh: Blood and Honey. It was very stupid, but it was entertaining, and the story wasn’t half bad. I mean, it’s not Shakespeare, but it was engaging. We also did an interview with Amber Doige-Thorn from the movie.
There is a Poohniverse planned, with all of the newly public domain characters: Pigglet (which is online), Tigger, Rabbit, Owl, Bambi, Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, and Mary Poppins.
Man, I want to see a Mary Poppins but as a horror. In it, she doesn’t sing, she slashes!
Bambi: The Reckoning will be out later this year.
