BUFFY Casting Call Gives Details

The reboot of Buffy The Vampire Slayer is drawing closer as a casting call has apparently gone out that reveals key characters.

There has been talk of the revival / reboot of Buffy The Vampire Slayer for a while. The new iteration of the show will be coming to Hulu and, now, a casting call has gone out.

According to scooper DanielRPK, who claims he has a copy of the casting call, the main slayer will be a character called Nova. She will be mentored by Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Buffy Summers. The role is described as, what else, a “determined and fearless vampire hunter”, because of course she is.

According to the sheet, they will look at actual teens and actors in their twenties for these teenage roles. It wouldn’t be US TV without some near-thirty-somethings knocking around at high school, would it?

Ethnicity for all characters is undefined, meaning the casting is ostensibly open.

The call reveals other characters. Nova’s father is “dedicated photojournalist” Abe. There is “wealthy and awkwardly nerdy” Hugo. Gracie is Nova’s best friend and an accidental expert in vampire lore.

Cole is the “confident jock” while the school librarian is Mr. Burke. Mia is a “social media-obsessed student” who is a supporting character. Other than Gellar, there is no news on any other returning characters from the original show.

The new series is being directed by Oscar winner Chloé Zhao with Poker Face showrunners Nora & Lilla Zuckerman writing.

The original series received critical and popular acclaim and is often listed among the greatest television series of all time. Original airings often reached four to six million viewers, which was huge for the newly established network WB.

It was, itself, an adaption from an earlier 1992 movie starring Kirsty Swanson and Rutger Hauer which was also created by the now-disgraced Joss Whedon.
