A24 has released the first official poster for Civil War. This is the new action film from writer/director Alex Garland, producer of Dredd and director of Ex Machina.
The story takes place in the United States in the not-so-distant future. No more is known about the plot at this point, but the poster showing two snipers positioned on the torch of the Statue of Liberty gives a tantalizing hint of what might be in store.
The cast of Civil War includes Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, Karl Glusman, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonica T. Gibbs, and Jess Matney.
Garland has described the film as a companion piece to Men and said:
“[It is] set at an indeterminate point in the future – just far enough ahead for me to add a conceit – and serves as a sci-fi allegory for our currently polarised predicament”.
This will mark Garland’s fourth officially directed feature. He also wrote the novel of The Beach and the scripts for Dredd and Sunshine. Gregory Goodman, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich will produce for A24 and DNA Films. The film targets a Spring 2024 release and will be available in IMAX.
Filming began in Atlanta on March 15, 2022. By May, production had moved to London.
