As the world wakes up to yet another potential Middle Eastern failure for poorly thought-out foreign policy, what we need is some lighter warfare. The kind of fantasy warfare where munitions fly but nobody important gets really hurt. Send a tasking to the USS Flagg, as GI Joe is coming back.
Max Landis has been hired by Paramount Pictures to work on a treatment for a new GI Joe feature. The big news is that The Righteous Gemstones creator Danny McBride has also been hired to work on a script for the same project.
Ellison likes a bit of competition, clearly!

A story from The Hollywood Reporter says the intention is to then merge the projects, but at least one source disputes this and says they are to remain separate. Curious and curiouser. Apparently, this is standard at Paramount, which has done this with Transformers and Star Trek before.
There will be some industry chatter around Max Landis. After looking like the coming star of spec scripts, he was caught up in the #MeToo movement and then cancelled by Hollywood. Several women alleged inappropriate behaviour, but no charges were ever filed.

Landis joins Brett Ratner and the alleged Hollywood Hugger, John Lasseter, at Paramount Skydance, so it looks like they are backing people if no charges were ever proved.
