Crawl was great movie. It’s a low-key cult classic in the making. Everyone who saw it says they dug the hell out of it. It was a great success, landing $91 million worldwide from a $14 million budget. The critics also rated it.
The simple story, well told, of alligators invading a Florida community during a category 5 hurricane knew exactly what it wanted to be and didn’t mess around to get there. Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper starred as a daughter and father caught up in the carnage, with an alligator in their crawl space, and others outside.
Now, the sequel has started building its cast.
Alexandre Aja (Piranha 3D), who directed the first film, will return to direct the sequel. Production starts later this month in Hungary and will move the action to New York, where alligators will enter the city streets and sewers after a hurricane once again. Like Sharknado without the yaks.
Mason Gooding (Scream) and Emily Rudd (One Piece) are now set to star in the Paramount Pictures project.
Aja, Jason Harry Pagan, Andrew Deutschman and Gregory Levasseur all contributed to the script. Craig Flores, Sam Raimi and Aja will produce.
