If ever there was a “challenged” movie, it was Disney’s live-action adaption of Snow White. Disney seemed to be on something of a roll with its live-action adaptions. Cinderella was a delightful movie, and Beauty and The Beast was on rotation in just about every Western household with a girl in it.
Then Disney started to get cocky. The Little Mermaid happened, and at the same time, Snow White star Rachel Zegler jumped into the culture wars with both feet. It didn’t go well for her.
Middle American audiences were turning away from Disney products in their droves, while news of reshoots simply added fuel to the smoldering fires around the production.
Can all that be put behind the project, and can it find success? Well the first trailer just dropped at D23 and now we can see what the live-action adaptation of its 1937 animated classic has in store.
The film stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White, Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, and Andrew Burnap as Jonathan along with seven companions who aren’t dwarfs anymore due to the sensitivities of little people.
The original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was Disney’s first major animated feature and the foundation stone of much of the company. Marc Webb directs from a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson.
The new Snow White arrives on March 21st 2025.
