DREDD Sequel On The Way

There have been two Dredd movies: Judge Dredd with Sylvester Stallone in 1995, and then with Karl Urban from 2012. One of them was stunningly creative and awesome, the other was not. From now on, I’m only ever talking about the Urban version of the movie.

Dredd was one of those movies that came out of nowhere and stunned everyone. It focused on a drug called SLO-MO, and the scenes shot with it were great. Urban made a great Dredd, and it was just cool.

So cool, they have a sequel on the way. Drew Pearce is attached to write the script. He is known for movies like Fall Guy and Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.

This is all the good news about this movie, but that’s where the good news ends. Attached to direct is Taika Waititi, the man who gave us Thor: Love and Thunder. That’s a little unfair, he also gave us Jojo Rabbit, which is a very good movie.

Sources say that both Pearce and Waititi grew up with Dredd books/comics, and are good friends. They have been looking for a project to work on together for a while, and it looks like this sequel is it.

The movie is being kept under wraps, but it’s believed to be based on the comics and lean more into the world-building and dark humour. It is also meant to be “a fun sci-fi blockbuster that nonetheless speaks to this moment in culture”.

They are hoping it launch a Dredd universe, with additional movies and shows, on various platforms.

Please help keep the lights on at the Last Movie Outpost, if you can spare a few bucks.
