Legendary and Warner Bros. Pictures have released a new set of character posters for Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming sci-fi epic Dune: Part Two. This is the adaptation of the second half of Frank Herbert’s seminal sci-fi novel. This is where we get to the business end of things as Paul Atreides starts on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family.
However, the law of unintended consequences shall apply, as he finds himself facing a choice between love and the fate of the known universe, and begins to get visions of a terrible future that he may ultimately cause.
The posters came from a major event panel at CCXP in Brazil yesterday, where almost the whole main cast was present and the first ten minutes of the movie was screened. According to reports from the screening, those first ten minutes contain a lot of detail.
The movie starts on Kaitain, the home of the Emperor, with the scene glimpsed in the first official trailer where Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh) is narrating into her dictation device about the destruction of House Atreides and the secrets surrounding what actually happened from the point of view of those outside events, scattered across the galaxy.
We see Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV (Christopher Walken) in a garden, playing chess with his daughter. The Princess is frustrated with the Emperor seeming withdrawn and focused elsewhere.
The next scene is back on Arrakis with Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård) reinstating his nephew Glossu “The Beast” Rabban (Dave Bautista) as the planet’s governor in a ceremony in front of a massive army.
Then the film’s logo is shown. Immediately Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) is heard talking to his future sister, the unborn child that Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) carries. Then Chani (Zendaya) and Stilgar (Javier Bardem) are on a sandbank, together with a group of Fremen. A Harkonnen ship lands and deploys soldiers. The Fremen trick the Harkonnen into a trap.
The film is rated PG-13 for sequences of strong violence, some suggestive material, and brief strong language. Dune Part 2 opens in cinemas everywhere on March 1st.
