The Japanese movie ratings regulator, via blogger Gavin in Cinema, has revealed that Dune Part Two will be Denis Villeneuve’s longest film to date.
The Film Classification and Rating Organization has applied a Japanese rating to the movie, and in the process, their filing shows a run time of 166 minutes. That is 2 hours and 46 minutes for those of you still using Imperial. Hello to our Liberian readers!
That runs eleven minutes longer than the first entry, which was 155 minutes long. It is even three minutes longer than the previous record holder, Blade Runner 2049.
This means lots of conflict, explosions, giant sandworm riding, knife fights, and water of life drinking. There is also a very real possibility that the sleeper may, in fact, awaken. The second half of Frank Herbert’s novel is where all the good stuff really kicks off.

Picking up where Dune Part One ended, Paul Atreides and the Fremen go on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed House Atreides, revealing the roots of the conspiracy to be galaxy-wide, and stretching to the Emperor himself. The fate of the known universe will rest in his hands, and he starts to receive visions of a truly terrible future that he may become responsible for.
Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, and Stephen McKinley Henderson return and are joined by Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, and Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot.
In the U.S. the film has been rated PG-13 for sequences of strong violence, some suggestive material, and brief strong language. That means they are allowed up to three “fucks” and also boobies, but not as part of sexy-fun-time.
Dune Part Two will open in cinemas everywhere on March 1st.
