Idris Elba has been promoting his newest movie, Sonic 3, based on the popular video game that young people play. In Sonic 3, Elba plays Knuckles and Keanu Reeves plays Shadow the Hedgehog, a fan favorite from Sonic Adventure 2.
Elba and Reeves have starred in another video game, Cyberpunk 2077. Reeves played Johnny Silverhand, one of the main characters, and Elba played Solomon Reed in the DLC, Phantom Liberty.
Talking to ScreenRant, Elba said that he would love to see a live-action movie of Cyberpunk. He said:
I think if any film could do a live-action rendition, it could be [ Cyberpunk 2077 ], and I think his character and my character together would be, “Whoa.” So, let’s speak that into existence.
There has been talk about a movie since the game originally came out in 2020. At first, it was released too soon and was very buggy. This meant there wasn’t a lot of love for it, but when the bugs were fixed the game went on to be one of the best games ever.
In 2023 the game’s developers, CD Projekt Red, started the ball rolling on a movie. The plan was to have it set in the same universe, but not have the same characters. That would be a shame as Johnny Silverhand is one of Reeves’ best personas. And yes, I know he was John Wick, Johnny Utah, Neo, and Ted.
As we all know though, getting a movie made in Hollywood is like trying to cook a steak by having 20 people breathe heavily on it. It might happen. Elba seems keen and I’m guessing Reeves would be up for it.
