They are deep into filming now on James Gunn’s Superman. It is due to wrap principal photography this summer and will then have a post-production period, callbacks, and reshoots ahead of Summer 2025, when the DCU will begin.
There are huge amounts of rumor and conjecture out there on the internet. YouTube, movie sites, blogs are all full of all sorts of stories. Some convincing, some outlandish. As a rule of thumb, if the content starts with “Hey guys!” and involves several pleas to “like and subscribe” while making vague mention of “sources”, then it is likely all bullshit.
One story took off in recent days. The main thrust of this rumor was that Superman / Kal-El would face a cloned and evil version of himself. Wasn’t that the plot to Superman IV: The Quest For Peace?
As is now traditional, Gunn himself has appeared on social media to address the rumors, and says this first instalment is way more straightforward than this:
“The primary protagonist of Superman is, shockingly, Superman. The main villain of Superman is, shockingly, Lex Luthor. I don’t know where all the stuff is coming from that it’s something other than this.
There are so many stories coming out every day it’s difficult to deal with and everytime I strike something down I’m giving it attention. So, I’ll say again, don’t believe anything unless you see it HERE (& why would you want to know everything before the movie comes out anyway?)”
Also on social media, Gunn said of the shooting:
“…we’re probably only 18% or so through it.”
He also talked about the costume reveal and timing:
“I’m almost ready to show it to you”.
Superman arrives in theaters next Summer – July 2025.
