The Harry Potter movies were a veritable Who’s Who of British acting talent. If she wasn’t busy with Bond, we would have seriously expected Dame Judi Dench to show up. So what will they do for an encore, when they make a much lengthier seven-season adaption and put back in all the stuff from the books that the movies missed out?
The casting call has already gone out for kids to play the students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Now they are turning their attention to the adult characters. The catch – it could be a seven-season commitment in some cases. So who is in the frame?
According to a report in Variety, they are circling a big name for the new Dumbledore. Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies, Wolf Hall, Ready Player One) is said to be their dream casting for the role.
The report says that Warner Bros. Television hasn’t yet entered into negotiations yet, but has made an enquiry about his interest and availability. HBO responded to the trade, saying:
“We appreciate that such a high profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.”
Everyone waits with baited breath to see if J.K. Rowling’s legendary defending of borders around her work can keep Warner Bros. tinkering idiocy at bay. This one could be interesting.
Harry Potter is due on Max and HBO in 2026 so will need to start production quite early next year.
