HELLBOY: THE CROOKED MAN Trailer

Big Red is back, but it’s not Ron Pearlman or David Harbour. Hellboy: The Crooked Man has Jack Kesy stepping into the role. There is a new trailer online.

It’s a far departure from the original Hellboy (2004), which was bigger in scale. This version looks more like a ‘bunch of teenagers in the woods discover evil’ type of thing.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man stars Kesy, Jefferson White, Leah McNamara, Joseph Marcell, Adelive Rudolph, Hannah Margetson and Martin Bassindale. Mike Mignola, the original creator of Hellboy, is writing, along with Christoper Golden. Brian Taylor is directing and is best known for Crank 1 & 2.

The story for this new reimagining is:

Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent get stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia and discover a small community haunted by witches, led by the Crooked Man.

The trailer made it look like colonial America, but I guess there are some places in the US that still look old.

Another Hellboy

We had the original Big Red as Ron Pearlman in 2004 and then 2008 for Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Both the originals were written and directed by Guillermo del Toro. They are generally well-loved and it was a shame we never saw a third one.

Then David Harbour took over the role in a reimagining, which was generally panned by critics and fans. That version, from 2019, was by Neil Marshall, who’s a little hit-and-miss with his movies. Dog Soldiers and The Decent are great fun and underrated. More recently, The Reckoning and The Lair, not so much.

It will be interesting to see how Kesy fits into the cut-off horns. Will you be watching Hellboy: The Crooked Man?
