HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON Teaser

How to Train Your Dragon originally came out in 2010. Based on a series of books of the same name, it quite caught everyone’s imagination. The original Dreamwork’s production took just under $500 million at the box office.

2010 was decades ago, so Dreamworks has had to remake it into a live-action movie. A teaser for How to Train Your Dragon is now online.

The teaser doesn’t give much away, just that Hiccup meets Toothless. Hiccup is the plucky young Viking and Toothless is the plucky young dragon. Man, I hope they get on in the movie.

This live action remake of How to Train Your Dragon stars Mason Thames, Nico Parker, Gerard Butler, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Nick Frost and Ruth Codd. Dean DeBlois is the writer, director. Writer is a strong word, just dust off the original script and slap a budget on it.

A preview of the movie has just taken place, with DeBlois talking about the story and showcasing some additional scenes. Apparently, people were raving about it. I’m going to have to press X for doubt on that one.

The Casting

Butler is back as Stoick, that’s on thing at least. The other thing that has been causing a little backlash is the character of Astrid. The entire movie takes place during the Viking era, a time when they gained infamy for their raids and pillaging. Obviously, this type of thing doesn’t go on in a kid’s movie, but Vikings were all Northern European.

In the original How to Train Your Dragon, Astrid was voiced by America Ferrera. In this live action movie, she’s played by Nico Parker. Her look is very different in versions.

That’s all I’m going to say about that, I’ll leave the rest up to you in the talkback.

How to Train Your Dragon will be in cinemas on the 13th of June 2025.
