Indie Movie Trailers

Don’t worry, there isn’t a new Indiana Jones movie coming out, well, not yet anyway. These are some independent movie trailers from ‘Not-Hollywood’. We’re going to create a new page and category for indie movies, just to have a break from things mainstream.

We get the occasional email from indie production companies, and they have some interesting movies to offer. Sure, they aren’t huge budgets or the biggest actors. However, they look far more interesting than what Hollywood is churning out on their conveyor belt.

So, we have three indie movies to share with you.

My Husband, The Cyborg

The plot is:

A marriage undergoes the ultimate test—neither infidelity nor a faded flame, but the allure of technology. With incredible intimacy, filmmaker Susanna Cappellaro documents her husband Scott Cohen’s decision to have an extrasensory device implanted into his body in order to increase his awareness of the world around him – but at what cost?

And here is a trailer:

It’s taken 6 years to produce and involves Scott being fitted with a device that alerts him when he faces north. He believes it gives him a better understanding of the universe. It explores the relationship between humans and technology and how close we are to building actual cyborgs.

I will admit, I thought it was a mockumentary at first, but I was mistaken and it’s real. I think it looks interesting.

Time Travel is Dangerous

The plot is:

Best friends Ruth and Megan run a vintage shop in Muswell Hill. When they stumble across a time machine, it occurs to them that stock is much cheaper if they ‘borrow’ from the past – well, it’s free. They don’t want to change history, or rob banks, they just want to find a nice Victorian lamp or authentic 80s bum bag without getting sucked into the hellish time-space vortex that is “the Unreason”. The thing is, Time Travel Is Dangerous.

Here is the trailer:

The cast for Time Travel is Dangerous is Johnny Vegas, Jane Horrocks, Sophie Thompson, Mark Heap, Brian Bovell, Tony Way, Guy Henry, Tom Lenk, Brian Bovell, Tony Way, Guy Henry, Laura Aikman & Kiell Smith-Bynoe. Chris Reading directs. Interestingly, Reading made an official short for the Alien series for Fox.

Time travel movies, although always wrong, can be entertaining. The cast is very good, well, for British people, there are a few well-known names there.  I would check this out when we can to review it.

My dad had an idea once about a man who made historical documentaries, but has a time machine and goes back and actually films events. When he shows his videos, everyone says they look fake.

In Vitro

The plot is:

On an isolated homestead in the near future, cattle breeders Layla and Jack discover a disturbing presence on their property.

The trailer:

The cast is Will Howarth, Talia Zucker & Ashley Zukerman. Will Howarth & Tom McKeith co-direct.

I like the look of this. A quick search: In vitro (Latin for “in glass”) studies are conducted using components of an organism that have been isolated from their usual biological surroundings, such as microorganisms, cells, or biological molecules. It sounds like the movie will have a good sci-fi end to it.

The production on all of these looks great. When I think indie, I usually think ‘shot on a VHS camera with someone holding a light’, but times have changed. I’m up for all three of these movies and I’ll review them when I can.
