Indie Trailer: NIGHT CALL (LA NUIT SE TRAÎNE)

We’re getting more and more trailers sent to us by studios, which is great. This time, it’s for the UK release of a movie called Night Call, or La nuit se traîne, in French.

Night Call stars Jonathan Feltre, Natacha Krief, Jonas Bloquet, Thomas Mustin, Romain Duris, Sam Louwyck and Nabil Mallat. Michiel Blanchart is directing and writing alongside Gilles Marchand and Laurent Brandenbourger.

The story is:

This night is like all the others for Mady, student by day, locksmith by night. But Claire, the enigmatic young girl he helps out that night, is not who she claims to be. Mady has only one night to prove his innocence in a city in turmoil.

The director said he wanted the movie to take place over one night in France. He liked the idea of an emergency locksmith who heads out to who knows where, breaks people’s locks, and collects cash on the spot. That person must see a lot of things he shouldn’t.

It’s interesting that we probably won’t know many of the names for Night Call, the actors or the director. It means you can go in without any expectations. The action looks solid, and the story looks engaging.

Night Call received a warm welcome at the Biarritz Film Festival and went on to win 10 awards at Belgium’s Magritte Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best First Feature Film. In fact, it now holds the record for the most wins at that ceremony.

Here are some stills from Night Call.

The movie premiered last year in June, but is only now getting a UK digital release on the 28th of April. I have been sent a screener and will post a review, as it looks interesting.
