JAWS Swims On Labor Day Box Office

The Labor Day holiday weekend box office didn’t do much to assuage Hollywood fears over the lack of audiences turning up. In fact, a prior release returned to top slot, while a 50 year led movie also made a splash.

That 4-day weekend is still down nearly 25% on last year.

In top spot, returning to number 1, was Weapons with a $12 million haul over the 4 days. That takes it up to $134 million domestic, plus another $100 million in international markets.

Jaws

In second place is the 50th anniversary IMAX re-release of Jaws. The all-time great movie pulled in $9.7 million for the 4 day.

In third place was Caught Stealing. Darren Aronofsky’s crime thriller, led by Austin Butler, was just behind with $9.5 million.

Freakier Friday is 4th with $8.7 million. It has a decent global haul of going on $133 million.

The Cumberbatch and Colman-led dark comedy Roses pulled in $7.3 million.

Elsewhere at the box office worthy of note is Toxic Avenger in tenth. It snared $2.2 million despite reports of audience walk outs over heavy doses of gore.
