Things have seemed very quiet for JJ Abrams recently. Once pegged by the kingmakers of Hollywood as the new hero of cinema, and the heir to Spielberg, things seemed to tail off.
After taking the reins of both Star Trek and Star Wars for a while, he moved to Warner Bros. Where he was widely tipped to run DC Studios.
That, as we know, never happened. His “Black Superman” project was shelved, and the Hot Wheels project also stalled.
He’s been working on something in London under the working title of Ghostwriter.
Now, a report at World of Reel has revealed the details.
It is called The Great Beyond, which was also the title of a song written by REM for the 1999 movie Man On The Moon.

This new Warner Bros. Pictures project tells the story of an author of popular fantasy novels who reveals that the mythical world he’s known for creating is actually real, sending the lead character on a quest.
Glenn Powell, Jenna Ortega, Emma Mackey, and Samuel L. Jackson star in the film. It is rumored to be a 1980’s style adventure and uses The Last Starfighter as an inspiration.
Filming has been completed, and now post-production is underway.
The Great Beyond has no release date. It will be Abrams first director gig since 2019 and Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker.
