The Jumanji movies were way, way better than they had any right to be. The cast understood the assignment and had fun with it, mocking both their onscreen and offscreen personas. There were some amusing observations of video games, and Karen Gillan made you have new, strange, and confusing thoughts about ginger Scots.
They also made money. Lots and lots of money. Mad amounts. In 2017, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle made over $962 million worldwide. Jumanji: The Next Level then went on to make $801 million worldwide. Unbelievable.
So it was inevitable that a third instalment would come along, and it has entered production. It is confirmed as being the final entry in this iteration of the franchise. Jake Kasdan, who directed the first two, returns again. The screenplay was written by Kasdan with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.
Now, Sony Pictures has released the first image showing Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan in a city setting. Is the third movie going to be set in a city?
Also returning are Nick Jonas as Jefferson ‘Seaplane’ McDonough, Rhys Darby as Nigel Billingsley, and Danny DeVito as Edward ‘Eddie’ Gilpin. Joining them are Brittany O’Grady, Burn Gorman, Dan Hildebrand, and Jack Jewkes.
