Kraven

KRAVEN Trailer Drops As Director Signs Deal

The main MCU remains in danger of becoming that turd that just won’t flush, particularly if the course correct fails to make it hit the heights of Phases 1 to 3. Meanwhile, Sony’s attempt at their own MCU, outside of the main Spider-Man movies, has been largely a disaster. Will Kraven the Hunter manage to change that?

This newest entry, which sees Quicksilver back from the dead and in a fluffy collar, brings one of the lesser-known stars of Marvel comics to the screen. Maybe that’s why I’m a little more interested in seeing it. The story is:

Russian immigrant Sergei Kravinoff is on a mission to prove that he is the greatest hunter in the world.

I thought it was that dentist who shot a lion a while back. I guess the best prey to hunt is humans.

As trailers go, that does the job. I have to be honest, I kind of want to see Kraven now. As a mindless, summer blockbuster, it could be OK. I’m not saying good, but OK. There is also a new poster.

Already A Success At Sony?

Somebody important at Sony must be happy with Kraven The Hunter, as according to Deadline, director J. C. CHandor has just closed a deal there to direct his next project. They must have liked working with him.

Chandor is the man behind Outpost favorite, the credit crunch drama that kicks The Big Short in the pants – Margin Call. He also made the excellent All Is Lost. Other movies on his resume include A Most Violent Year and Triple Frontier.

Kraven

The new movie, which he is writing himself, tells the story of an investigation into a death in a rich and powerful dynasty. It is being dubbed Succession with an Erin Brockovich feel. A first draft is already done.

The deal was inked after the studio saw the latest cut of Kraven. In this movie, Chandor says:

“I think it’s gonna surprise the hell out of a lot of people.”

Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven, with Fred Hechinger as Kraven’s estranged half-brother Dmitri Smerdyakov/Chameleon, Alessandro Nivola as Russian mercenary Aleksei Sytsevich/The Rhino, Ariana DeBose as voodoo priestess Calypso, and Christopher Abbott as mercenary and assassin The Foreigner.

The film was shot entirely on location in the UK and Iceland.

Kraven the Hunter opens in cinemas on December 13th.
