Lanterns

LANTERNS Tone Teased

What to expect from Lanterns? After the high profile failure of Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern movie, there have ben a number of attempts to do something new with the various characters.

We know that Guy Gardner will appear in Superman in the form of Gunn favorite Nathan Fillion.

It was a bit of a surprise to then discover that a television series based around the Lanterns was coming,, and that it would be more of a detective story set on Earth.

Now, Poorna Jagannathan (Wolfs) has teased a tiny bit more about what to expect from the show.

Lanterns

She will play the role of a mysterious character called Zoe, who may or may not be a Lantern.

We already knew that it had been set as a “gritty True Detective-style show”, which makes the mind boggle and gets our attention,

It has been confirmed that Lanterns will follow the legendary Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) as he reluctantly mentors younger John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), and they will be drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery involving a murder in the American heartland.

In an interview with Collider, Jagannathan was asked about the show and she revealed she is not a sci-fi fan herself, but what attracted her was how accessible the sci-fi ideas were in the script:

“This is the first script that I’ve read that I understand why there’s an NDA. Everything is so insane. It is the best writing that I have ever read.

I don’t know anything about sci-fi, and I don’t care, actually. But this script makes sci-fi seem like my world. It makes it so accessible to me.

I understand everything about this world even though I don’t understand this world. So it’s the best sci-fi script I’ve ever read.”

The interview also said camera testing will start this week, which means images may start to drop soon.

Lanterns is show run by Chris Mundy and arrives on Max in 2026.
