LMO Exclusive Interview With Catherine Mary Stewart

Working at the Last Movie Outpost can be hard work. Sometimes there are slow news days. This week, illness has got the better of me. It’s a struggle! However, now and then, it’s better than anything I can imagine! For example, recently I had the chance to interview Catherine Mary Stewart and talk to her about The Last Starfighter.

The Last Starfighter is one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever! As a kid, I watched it to death on VHS and just loved it. One of my first movie crushes was Maggie from the movie. Imagine my surprise when, some 40 years later, I was able to chat with Maggie in person.

At the Last Movie Outpost, we’re planning on revisiting some of the classics from the 80s – the greatest decade for movies ever! I was lucky enough to chat with Alex Hyde-White a while back, from Biggles.

We’re planning an article about the history of The Last Starfighter and some other cool things like a video about it, so getting hold of Catherine to talk to her about the movie was just the icing on the cake. Enough of me… here is the interview with Catherine.

A bit of a bombshell at the end there, there is a script going around for The Last Starfighter 2! We had heard this, but it is good to have it confirmed.

Genuinely, one of the nicest, bubbliest, smiliest people I’ve ever met. She was so nice I could have chatted with her all day. There was a “Quick-Fire Round”, but Catherine doesn’t do things in quick-fire, bless her. I took it out, but here are some highlights:

She prefers the original Star Trek series over Star Wars
Coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon
Her favorite movie growing up was Jesus Christ Superstar, as she was a trained dancer
She had the most fun on the set of Mischief with Kelly Preston
Her mum tried to encourage her into acting, which she fought against
She had a huge crush on Paul Newman, and she accidentally fell over in front of him once
She likes Bob’s Burgers
