LORD OF WAR Sequel To Start

I maintain that the 2005 Nic Cage movie Lord Of War is some kind of low-key masterpiece. Effortlessly switching between grimly dark humor and flat-out depressing realism, it makes Cage’s Yuri Orlov a weirdly sympathetic anti-hero even though he is engaged in a truly hateful enterprise.

Two years after a sequel to the Andrew Niccol movie was announced, it seems production is finally set to get underway, according to Variety. Nicolas Cage will reprise his role of notorious weapons trafficker, and the title will be Lords Of War. It will shoot later this month in Belgium and Morocco.

The cast has also expanded, now to feature Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049) and Greg Tarzan Davis (Top Gun: Maverick) alongside Bill Skarsgård (IT), and Laura Harrier (Spider-Man Homecoming).

In this follow-up, Yuri will go head-to-head against his own son, Anton (Skarsgard). Anton hasn’t simply followed his father into the arms trade, but is going one step further. Anton is amassing a mercenary army to fight America’s conflicts in the Middle East, and soon a bitter rivalry erupts, with the two at odds over everything – including the same women.

Cage, Philippe Rousselet, and Fabrice Gianfermi produce, with Skarsgård executive producing.

The original Lord Of War is currently streaming on Netflix.
